The Ordeal represents the beginning of a candidate’s introduction into the Order. It is important the Ordeal be carried out in a solemn and dignified manner. The experience should be one the new member looks to for the rest of his life as a source of inspiration in the pursuit of cheerful service and promotion of Scout camping. Your responsibility is to be the candidates friend, to make them feel comfortable and at ease, and to welcome them into the lodge. Amangi Nacha Lodge uses the Elangomat system to run its Ordeals. Under the system, candidates are split into clans of no more than ten members each. Where possible, candidates should be assigned to clans with other candidates and an Elangomat from their own district. Each clan is assigned the name of an Indian tribe. The Elangomat undergoes the same Ordeal as the candidates and faces the same four tests. Serving as an Elangomat is an ideal way for a new Arrowman to learn more about the Ordeal. Once Elangomats have completed a series of requirements, they are eligible for theAmangi Nacha Lodge Elangomat Recognition Award. Ordeal Gear
